Biography
James E. Newcom (also credited as James Newcom) was an American film editor whose career spanned from 1933 to 1970. He worked on more than 40 feature films, often in supervisory or associate roles early on, and later as editor or supervising editor on major productions.
Newcom received an Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Gone with the Wind (1939), shared with Hal C. Kern. He earned further nominations in the same category for Since You Went Away (1944, shared with Kern), Annie Get Your Gun (1950) and Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970, shared with Inoue Chikaya and Pembroke J. Herring). His credits include Rebecca (1940), Scaramouche (1952), Westward the Women (1951) and one episode of the television series The Fugitive (1963).
