Biography
James Flynn (21 August 1965 – 11 February 2023) was an Irish film and television producer. Born in Kilmacud, County Dublin, he studied commerce at University College Dublin and began his career as head of development at John Boorman’s Merlin Films. From 1993 to 1997 he worked as business manager and later deputy chief executive of the Irish Film Board.
In 1997 Flynn co-founded Metropolitan Film Productions with his wife, director Juanita Wilson. His credits include producer on Calvary (2014), co-producer on The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) and The Last Duel (2021), and executive producer on the series Vikings (2013–2020). He also produced the Oscar-nominated short The Door (2010) and served as executive producer on the Oscar-nominated animated feature The Secret of Kells (2009).
Flynn died in Dublin after a short illness. His contributions to the Irish film industry were noted by President Michael D. Higgins.
