Biography
James Ramon Jones (1921–1977) was an American novelist. His debut novel From Here to Eternity (1951) won the National Book Award and was adapted into a 1953 film. He served in the US Army during the Second World War, witnessing the attack on Pearl Harbor and seeing combat on Guadalcanal.
Jones’s wartime experiences informed his war trilogy, including The Thin Red Line (1962), which was adapted into films in 1964 and 1998. He also contributed to the screenplay for the 1962 film The Longest Day. Other notable works include the novel Some Came Running (1958), adapted into a film the same year.
