Biography
James Whitaker is an American cinematographer born on 7 October 1970 in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and has also directed for television.
His feature credits as director of photography include Thank You for Smoking (2005), Running Scared (2006), Crossing Over (2009), Stolen (2012), One for the Money (2012) and Cobain: Montage of Heck (2015). Television work includes Patriot (2015–2018), for which he also directed one episode, Hawkeye (2021) and the limited series DTF St. Louis (2026). He has collaborated repeatedly with writer-director Steve Conrad.
Whitaker received a Primetime Emmy nomination for cinematography on the documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck. He is married to Nicole Hirsch Whitaker.
