Biography
Jed Mercurio is a British television writer, producer, director and novelist. A former hospital doctor, he trained at the University of Birmingham Medical School and practised medicine before turning to writing after responding to an advertisement in the British Medical Journal. He wrote the BBC medical drama Cardiac Arrest (1994–1996) under the pseudonym John MacUre while still a doctor, and subsequently pursued a full-time writing career.
Mercurio created and wrote Bodies (2004–2006) and Line of Duty (2012–2021), on which he also served as producer and director. He created and wrote Bodyguard (2018). He has received an OBE for services to television drama.
