Biography
Jeremy Paul (born Jeremy Paul Roche) was a British film and television screenwriter and playwright. Born on 29 July 1939 in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, he was the son of actress Joan Haythorne. He worked as an assistant stage manager before studying English at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, and sold his first television play while a student. He left after one year on receiving a contract to write for ATV.
Paul wrote numerous episodes of Upstairs, Downstairs (1971–75) and The Duchess of Duke Street (1976–77). His other television credits include episodes of Sherlock Holmes (1984–94) for Granada Television, Lovejoy, Tales of the Unexpected and the Play for Today The Flipside of Dominick Hide (1980). He also wrote the screenplay for the film Countess Dracula (1971) and co-wrote the stage play The Secret of Sherlock Holmes. He died on 3 May 2011.
