Biography
Andrew Payne was a British television scriptwriter and playwright. Born in Bovey Tracey, Devon, he was educated at Denstone College and Hornsey College of Art, and began his career as a screenprinter before turning to writing.
He contributed episodes to series including Lovejoy (1986) and Midsomer Murders (1997), and wrote multiple instalments of Minder (1979). Payne created and was the principal writer of the detective series Pie in the Sky (1994), and adapted two Dick Francis novels for television. He also wrote for DCI Banks (2011).
Payne died on 12 January 2024.
