Biography
Jerome Palmer Cowan (6 October 1897 – 24 January 1972) was an American stage, film and television actor. Born in New York City, he began his career in stock companies and made his Broadway debut in 1923 in We've Got to Have Money. He appeared in numerous Broadway productions through the 1950s before moving into film.
Cowan's film career began in 1936 with Beloved Enemy. He appeared in more than one hundred films, including The Maltese Falcon (1941) as Miles Archer, High Sierra (1941), Miracle on 34th Street (1947) as Thomas Mara, The Fountainhead (1949) and Pocketful of Miracles (1961). He also had recurring roles in the Blondie film series and guest appearances in television series such as Perry Mason and The Munsters.
