Biography
Jim Helton is a film and television editor. He studied filmmaking at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he met director Derek Cianfrance, with whom he has collaborated extensively.
Helton edited Cianfrance’s features Blue Valentine (2010), The Place Beyond the Pines (2013) and The Light Between Oceans (2016). He also edited the HBO miniseries I Know This Much Is True (2020) and the feature Roofman (2025). He has worked on commercials and branded content, and joined the roster of Final Cut in 2017.
Born in Heidelberg, Germany, in 1973, Helton lives and works in New York City.
