Biography
John Axelrad is an American film editor. A graduate of the USC School of Cinema-Television, he began his career as an assistant editor in the 1990s, working with editors including Anne V. Coates, before moving into feature editing.
He has edited numerous features, including Ad Astra (2019), Papillon (2017), The Lost City of Z (2017), Krampus (2015) and The Switch (2010). Axelrad has maintained a long collaboration with director James Gray. He edited The End of Oak Street (2026), directed by David Robert Mitchell.
Axelrad is a member of the American Cinema Editors and has mentored emerging editors through programmes run by the ACE, the Academy and others. He was born in Chicago, Illinois.
