Biography

John Bloom is an English film editor. He began his career in the 1950s as a script reader at Pinewood Studios before moving into editing, with his first solo credit on the 1960 film The Impersonator. He has nearly fifty film credits spanning from 1958 to 2011.

Bloom won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Gandhi (1982), directed by Richard Attenborough, with whom he collaborated on several projects. He received Academy Award nominations for The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981) and A Chorus Line (1985), and a Primetime Emmy Award for Wit (2001). Other notable credits include The Lion in Winter (1968), Orca (1977), Closer (2004) and Charlie Wilson's War (2007). He is the brother of actress Claire Bloom.
