Biography
John Bryan (12 August 1911 – 10 June 1969) was a British art director, production designer and film producer. He was born in Kensington, London, and died in Thames Ditton, Surrey.
Bryan served as production designer on David Lean’s Great Expectations (1946), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction (Black-and-White). He received further Oscar nominations for Caesar and Cleopatra (1945) and Becket (1964), and won a BAFTA for the latter. Other credits include Oliver Twist (1948), Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951) and Pygmalion (1938). He was also credited early in his career as E.J. Bryan and served on the jury of the 9th Berlin International Film Festival in 1959.
