Biography
John D. Kretschmer is an American production designer. He holds a BA in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a founding member of the student television station STV. He began his career in the 1980s as a set dresser, property master and leadman on films including The Abyss (1989) and Twelve Monkeys (1995).
Since the mid-1990s he has worked as a production designer on features such as The Strangers (2008) and Tusk (2014), and on television series including Dawson's Creek (1998–1999), One Tree Hill (2003–2005), Army Wives (2007–2010) and The Following (2013). He served as production designer on the Showtime series Homeland (2011–2020) for 81 episodes across eight seasons, earning three nominations for the Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Award. He has also designed pilots for series including 24: Legacy (2016) and SEAL Team (2017).
