Biography
John Gorrie (born John Sumner Gorrie, 11 August 1932) is an English television director and screenwriter. He began his career as an actor before joining the BBC as an assistant floor manager. In early 1963 he completed the BBC's directors' course, after which his first directing assignments were on the soap opera Compact and the anthology series Suspense.
Gorrie directed the Doctor Who serial The Keys of Marinus (1964). He went on to direct episodes of Out of the Unknown, Play for Today, Tales of the Unexpected (1979–1988) and Coronation Street (1994). He also directed and co-wrote episodes of the historical series Edward the Seventh (1975) and Lillie (1978), and helmed two productions for the BBC Television Shakespeare project: Twelfth Night (1980) and The Tempest (1980). He won a BAFTA Award for his work.
