Biography
Anthony Read (21 April 1935 – 21 November 2015) was an English television writer, script editor, producer and author. His earliest credited work was as a freelance writer on the BBC police series Z-Cars in 1962. He joined the BBC staff in 1963 and went on to write and edit scripts for series including Detective, The Indian Tales of Rudyard Kipling and Sherlock Holmes (1965).
In 1977 Read became script editor on Doctor Who under producer Graham Williams, serving through seasons 15 and 16 (including the Key to Time arc) and writing or co-writing stories such as The Invasion of Time (as David Agnew) and The Horns of Nimon. He also contributed to The Professionals (1977–80) and Hammer House of Horror (1980). Later television credits included The Omega Factor (1979) and The Tribe (1999). From the 1980s he wrote World War II histories and, from 2004, revived his 1983 series The Baker Street Boys in prose.
