Biography
Philip Martin (3 July 1938 – 13 December 2020) was an English television screenwriter. He began his career as an actor, appearing in episodes of Z-Cars (1962) and other series, before turning to writing in the late 1960s.
His early writing credits included multiple episodes of Z-Cars (1970) and other police dramas. He created the BBC series Gangsters (1976–1978), which originated as a Play for Today episode in 1975. Martin also wrote the Doctor Who serials Vengeance on Varos (1985) and Mindwarp (1986, part of The Trial of a Time Lord). Other credits include episodes of The Bill (1990), Star Cops (1987) and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates.
