Biography
Michael Hayes (3 April 1929 – 16 September 2014) was a British television director. Born in Barking, Essex, he began his career as an actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company before joining the BBC, where he worked as a studio manager for the World Service and progressed to directing for television.
His early directing credits included the BBC Shakespeare adaptation series An Age of Kings (1960) and the science-fiction serial A for Andromeda (1961). He later directed three Doctor Who serials starring Tom Baker: The Androids of Tara (1978), The Armageddon Factor (1979) and City of Death (1979). Other work encompassed episodes of All Creatures Great and Small and various BBC dramas. From 1986 to 1994 he served as a newsreader for the World Service.
