Biography
John Kander is an American composer born on 18 March 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri. He is best known for his long collaboration with lyricist Fred Ebb on Broadway musicals including Cabaret (1966) and Chicago (1975).
Kander has also composed for films, including the score adaptation for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), New York, New York (1977) and Places in the Heart (1984). He trained at Oberlin College and Columbia University and began his career arranging dance music for shows such as Gypsy before his Broadway debut.
