Biography

John Young (16 June 1916 – 30 October 1996) was a Scottish actor. He joined the Edinburgh Gateway Company in 1953 and appeared in numerous stage productions, films and television series over four decades.

His film roles include the fishmonger in The Wicker Man (1973), Dead Body and Historian Frank in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Matthias in Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979), Reginald in Time Bandits (1981) and Rev. J.D. Liddell in Chariots of Fire (1981). On television he played Rev. Iain McPherson in the Scottish soap opera Take the High Road for many years from 1980. He was the father of actor Paul Young.
