Biography
Joseph E. Levine was an American film producer, distributor and financier. Born in Boston, he began his career as an exhibitor of foreign films before moving into distribution and production through Embassy Pictures, the company he founded.
He was responsible for the American releases of Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956), Hercules (1959) and Attila (1955), and produced or financed Contempt (1963), The Graduate (1967), The Lion in Winter (1968), Carnal Knowledge (1971) and A Bridge Too Far (1977). Levine died in Greenwich, Connecticut, in 1987.
