Biography
Joseph Kosinski is an American film director. He was born on 3 May 1974 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He studied mechanical engineering at Stanford University and architecture at Columbia University. After graduating, he co-founded a design firm and began directing commercials, including the "Starry Night" spot for Halo 3 and the award-winning "Mad World" for Gears of War.
Kosinski made his feature debut directing Tron: Legacy (2010). His subsequent films include Oblivion (2013), Only the Brave (2017), Top Gun: Maverick (2022), Spiderhead (2022) and F1 (2025), on which he also received story and producer credits. He wrote the story for Twisters (2024).
