Biography
Joshua Shelley, born Joshua Kurzweil, was an American actor and director. He was born in New York on 27 January 1920 and died in Los Angeles on 16 February 1990.
Blacklisted by Hollywood studios following the 1952 House Un-American Activities Committee investigations, Shelley did not resume regular work until 1973. A member of the Actors Studio from its founding in 1947, he worked frequently on stage, both on and off Broadway, during his period away from film and television. His screen credits were primarily in television, where he directed episodes of MASH (1972) and Get Smart (1965). Film roles include Al Lewis in All the President's Men (1976) and Sam in The Front* (1976).
