Biography
Juan Jose Meza-Leon is a Mexican animation director and storyboard artist. Born on 5 May 1978 in Ensenada, Baja California, he is self-taught and began his career as a production assistant at Fox Baja Studios before working as a storyboard artist on live-action productions.
He moved to the United States to work in animation, contributing as a story artist on series for Warner Bros. Animation, Nickelodeon and others. At Nickelodeon he was promoted to director on Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness (2011) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012). He has directed episodes of Rick and Morty (2013) across multiple seasons, Harley Quinn (2019) and Final Space (2018).
Other credits include directing the Rick and Morty couch gag for The Simpsons (2015), a music video for Run the Jewels, and the feature Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires (2025).
