Biography
Julia Phillips (née Miller) was an American film producer. With her then-husband Michael Phillips and Tony Bill she co-produced The Sting (1973), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture; she was the first woman to win the award as a producer. She also produced Taxi Driver (1976) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977).
Born in New York City in 1944, Phillips graduated from Mount Holyoke College and worked in publishing and as a story editor before forming Bill/Phillips Productions in the early 1970s. In 1991 she published the memoir You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again, a bestseller that recounted her Hollywood career.
Phillips died in West Hollywood, California, in 2002.
