Biography
Michael Phillips is an American film producer. Born on 29 June 1943 in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, he graduated with a B.A. in history from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1969 and worked as a securities analyst on Wall Street before moving to California in 1971.
With his then-wife Julia Phillips and producer Tony Bill, he financed the screenplay for The Sting (1973), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture; the couple were the first husband-and-wife team to receive the award. They subsequently produced Taxi Driver (1976) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). Phillips later produced The Flamingo Kid (1984) and served as executive producer on several films including Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991) and Mimic (1997). He has been married to writer Juliana Maio since 1987.
