Biography

Julian Wadham is an English actor of stage, film and television. Born Julian Neil Rohan Wadham on 7 August 1958 in Ware, Hertfordshire, he was educated at Ampleforth College and the Central School of Speech and Drama.

He is known for film roles including Pitt in The Madness of King George (1994), Madox in The English Patient (1996), Trench Captain in War Horse (2011) and Jean de Cambaceres in Napoleon (2023). Television appearances include Lord General George Murray in Outlander (2014), David Stancliffe in The Crown (2016) and Francis Pym in The Iron Lady (2011).

Wadham has a substantial stage career, with National Theatre productions including The Madness of King George, Much Ado About Nothing and work directed by Nicholas Hytner.
