Biography

Kelly Marcel (born 10 January 1974) is an English filmmaker and former actress. She began her career in musical theatre in the United Kingdom before transitioning to screenwriting.

Marcel received her breakthrough with the screenplay for Saving Mr. Banks (2013). She went on to write Fifty Shades of Grey (2015), Venom (2018), Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), and Venom: The Last Dance (2024), the last of which marked her directorial debut; she also received story and producer credits on the 2024 film. She created the television series Terra Nova (2011) and served as showrunner and writer on The Changeling (2023).

She is a co-artistic director of the Bad Dog Theater Company, founded in 2010 with actor Tom Hardy.
