Biography
Larry Smith is a British cinematographer. Born in London, he left school at 15 to work as an electrician at Shepperton Studios. He began his career in film as chief electrician on Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon (1975) and later served as gaffer on The Shining (1980).
Smith made his debut as director of photography on Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut (1999). He has since collaborated repeatedly with directors including Nicolas Winding Refn on Fear X (2003), Bronson (2008) and Only God Forgives (2013), and John Michael McDonagh on The Guard (2011), Calvary (2014) and The Forgiven (2021). Other credits include The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015), Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023) and Giant (2025). He also directed, wrote and produced the 2015 film Trafficker.
Smith is a member of the British Society of Cinematographers and the American Society of Cinematographers.
