Biography
Len Cariou is a Canadian actor. Born Leonard Joseph Cariou on 30 September 1939 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he began his career in theatre and became a founding member of the Manitoba Theatre Centre.
He gained prominence on Broadway for his Tony Award-winning performance as Sweeney Todd in the original 1979 production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, following earlier nominations for Applause (1970) and A Little Night Music (1973). Cariou has appeared in supporting film roles including The Four Seasons (1981), About Schmidt (2002) as Ray Nichols, Flags of Our Fathers (2006), Prisoners (2013) and Spotlight (2015). On television he is known for recurring roles in Murder, She Wrote and as Henry Reagan in Blue Bloods (2010–2024).
