Biography
Lesley Nicol is an English actress. She trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
She originated the role of Auntie Annie on stage in East Is East at the Royal Court Theatre and reprised it in the 1999 film adaptation. Nicol is best known for playing Beryl Patmore in the television series Downton Abbey (2010–2015) and its feature films Downton Abbey (2019), Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022) and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025). She is a three-time Screen Actors Guild Award winner for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.
Her other credits include Mrs Beaver in the 1988 BBC adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, guest roles in series such as Supernatural and The Boys, and stage work in the West End productions of Mamma Mia! and Our House.
