Biography
Lynda Rosen Obst (14 April 1950 – 22 October 2024) was an American film producer and author. Born in New York City, she began her career as an editor at the New York Times Magazine before moving into film development in the late 1970s.
In 1986 she co-founded Hill/Obst Productions with Debra Hill, one of the first all-female production companies in Hollywood. Their credits included Adventures in Babysitting (1987) and The Fisher King (1991). She later established Lynda Obst Productions and produced or executive produced films including Sleepless in Seattle (1993), Contact (1997), How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) and Interstellar (2014).
Obst also wrote the memoir Hello, He Lied (1996) and other books. She collaborated frequently with writer-director Nora Ephron and worked across major studios until her final feature credit on Interstellar.
