Biography

Matthew Diamond is an American film and television director, producer and choreographer. Born on 26 November 1951 in Manhattan, New York, he began his career as a principal dancer with companies including the Louis Falco Dance Company and later worked as a choreographer before moving into directing in the 1980s.

He has directed episodes of numerous television series, including 21 episodes of The Golden Girls (1985) and several of Gilmore Girls (2000). Other credits include Family Ties, Scrubs, Desperate Housewives, That's So Raven, Ugly Betty, Jane the Virgin and Eureka. He directed the 1998 documentary Dancemaker and the 2008 television film Camp Rock.

Diamond was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for Dancemaker in 1999. He has received Primetime Emmy, Daytime Emmy and Directors Guild of America awards and nominations, including for work on Great Performances: Dance in America.
