Biography
Maurice Roëves was a British actor. Born John Maurice Roëves in Sunderland on 19 March 1937, he moved to Glasgow as a child and trained at the Glasgow College of Dramatic Art. He began his career on stage at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow in the 1960s.
His breakthrough screen role was as Stephen Dedalus in the 1967 film Ulysses. He appeared in more than 120 film and television roles, including Colonel Munro in The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Warden Miller in Judge Dredd (1995), and parts in Escape to Victory (1981), The Damned United (2009) and Macbeth (2015). Television credits include Doctor Who, Star Trek: The Next Generation, EastEnders and River City.
Roëves died in Edinburgh on 14 July 2020.
