Biography

Michael Higgins was an American actor who appeared in film, television and on stage. Born Michael Patrick Higgins Jr. in Brooklyn, New York, he made his Broadway debut in 1946 in a production of Antigone and later performed in the original Broadway run of Equus.

He received two Obie Awards for Off-Broadway work, including his performance as John Proctor in The Crucible. Higgins appeared in more than fifty films, among them The Conversation (1974), in which he played Paul, as well as Wanda (1970), The Stepford Wives (1975), Rumble Fish (1983), Angel Heart (1987) and Synecdoche, New York (2008).

He was married to Elizabeth Lee Goodwin from 1946 until his death in Manhattan on 5 November 2008.
