Biography
Michael Hugh Medwin was an English actor and film producer. Born in London on 18 July 1923, he died in Bournemouth on 26 February 2020. He trained at the Italia Conti stage school and made his professional stage debut in 1940. His theatre work included seasons at the National Theatre and long-running West End productions such as Noises Off.
As an actor he appeared in numerous films and television series. Notable credits include Corporal Springer in the ITV comedy The Army Game (1957–58), Don Satchley in the BBC series Shoestring (1979–80), Ginger in Carry On Nurse (1959), Pvt. Watney in The Longest Day (1962), Nephew Fred in Scrooge (1970) and a role in The Duchess (2008).
Medwin co-founded the production company Memorial Enterprises with Albert Finney. He produced If.... (1968), O Lucky Man! (1973) and Charlie Bubbles (1968). He was appointed OBE in 2005 for services to drama.
