Biography
Mildred Natwick was an American actress who worked in theatre, film and television. She began performing on stage at the age of 21 with the Vagabonds, a non-professional group in Baltimore, and later joined the University Players on Cape Cod. Her Broadway debut came in 1932 as Mrs Noble in Carry Nation.
Natwick made her film debut in John Ford's The Long Voyage Home (1940). She appeared in several of Ford's films, including She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and The Quiet Man (1952). Other notable screen roles include Miss Gravely in The Trouble with Harry (1955), Ethel Banks in Barefoot in the Park (1967) and Madame de Rosemonde in Dangerous Liaisons (1988). She received an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress for Barefoot in the Park and won a Primetime Emmy Award for the miniseries The Snoop Sisters.
