Biography

Mitchell Ryan (1934–2022) was an American character actor whose career spanned more than six decades in film, television and theatre. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, he served in the US Navy during the Korean War before training at the Barter Theatre in Virginia, where he made his stage debut in the 1958 film Thunder Road.

Ryan gained early recognition as Burke Devlin in the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. He appeared on Broadway in Wait Until Dark, Medea and The Price, and played Edward Montgomery in the sitcom Dharma & Greg (1997–2002). His film roles include General Peter McAllister in Lethal Weapon (1987), Mr. Bart Newberry in Grosse Pointe Blank (1997), and parts in Magnum Force (1973), Liar Liar (1997) and Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995).
