Biography
Mona Washbourne (27 November 1903 – 15 November 1988) was an English actress of stage, film and television. She trained as a concert pianist before beginning her professional stage career in the 1920s and appearing in films from 1948.
Her film roles include Alice Fisher in Billy Liar (1963), Mrs. Pearce in My Fair Lady (1964), Aunt Annie in The Collector (1965), the Matron in If.... (1968) and the aunt in Stevie (1978). On stage she appeared in David Storey's Home (1970) at the Royal Court Theatre and on Broadway, for which she received a Tony Award nomination, and in a 1975 West End revival of Harvey with James Stewart. She played Nanny Hawkins in the 1981 television adaptation of Brideshead Revisited.
Washbourne was married to actor Basil Dignam from 1940 until his death in 1979. She received a New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress for Stevie.
