Biography
Nico Muhly is an American composer of contemporary classical music, film scores and operas. Born in Vermont in 1981, he studied English at Columbia University and music composition at the Juilliard School. He worked as an assistant to Philip Glass for several years before establishing his own career.
Muhly has composed scores for films including The Reader (2008), Joshua (2007), Kill Your Darlings (2013), Margaret (2011) and How to Talk to Girls at Parties (2017). He has also written operas such as Two Boys (2011) and Marnie (2018), both commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera, and collaborated with artists including Björk and Sufjan Stevens. His work encompasses orchestral, choral and chamber music, with commissions from major ensembles and institutions.
