Biography

Norman Burton (5 December 1923 – 29 November 2003) was an American actor. Born in New York City, he trained at the Actors Studio and began his career with stage work before making his film debut in a minor role in Fright (1956).

He appeared as the Hunt Leader in Planet of the Apes (1968) and as an army officer in Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971). Burton played Felix Leiter in the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Will Giddings in The Towering Inferno (1974). His other film credits include Bloodsport (1988). He also worked extensively in television.

Burton died in a car accident near the California–Arizona border while returning to his home in Mexico.
