Biography
Odette Myrtil (born Odette Laure Clotilde Quignarde; 28 June 1898 – 18 November 1978) was a French-born American actress, singer and violinist. She began her career as a violinist on the vaudeville stage in Paris at the age of 14 and studied violin in Brussels. She later performed in London revues, including The Bing Boys Are Here (1916), and appeared in numerous Broadway productions from the mid-1920s onwards.
Myrtil made her film debut in a speaking role as Renée de Penable in Dodsworth (1936). She went on to appear in supporting parts in more than 25 films, often portraying elegant European characters, including Delphine Detaille in Kitty Foyle (1940), Madame Bartholdi in Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) and an uncredited role in Strangers on a Train (1951). She also worked as a costume designer on several pictures in the 1940s and 1950s.
