Biography
Pat Proft is an American comedy writer, actor and director. He was born on 3 April 1947 in Columbia Heights, Minnesota. He began his career performing at Dudley Riggs' Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis in the mid-1960s before moving to Los Angeles in 1972, where he worked at The Comedy Store and began writing for television.
Proft has written screenplays for numerous comedy films. His credits include Police Academy (1984), The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991), Hot Shots! (1991), Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993), Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994), Scary Movie 3 (2003), Scary Movie 4 (2006) and Scary Movie 5 (2013). He also wrote Bachelor Party (1984) and Real Genius (1985).
Proft directed one feature film, Wrongfully Accused (1998), which he also wrote and produced. He has frequently collaborated with David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker.
