Biography
Peter Bull (1912–1984) was a British character actor. Born in London, he was educated at Winchester College and made his professional stage debut in 1933 at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
He appeared in supporting roles in films including The African Queen (1951), Oliver Twist (1948), Tom Jones (1963) and Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964), in which he played Botschafter De Sadesky. Bull was the first actor to portray Pozzo in the English-language premiere of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot (1955). He served as a lieutenant commander in the Royal Navy during the Second World War and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
