Biography
Philip Tan is a Singaporean-British actor and stunt performer. Born in Singapore in 1960, he moved to the United Kingdom at the age of five. He trained as a gymnast, becoming British Youth Tumbling champion, and later won the Men's British Tae Kwon Do title.
Tan began his film career in 1980 as an actor and fight choreographer on The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu. He worked as an actor and trainer on Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984) and trained Ke Huy Quan for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), in which he also played the Chief Henchman (credited as Philip Tann). He joined the British Stunt Register in 1986 and has since worked extensively as a stunt performer, fight coordinator and second unit director on films including Batman (1989), Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) and Olympus Has Fallen (2013). He is based in Los Angeles.
