Biography
Philippe Sarde is a French film composer. Born on 21 June 1948 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, he studied harmony, counterpoint, fugue and composition at the Paris Conservatory under Noël Gallon.
Sarde began his career scoring Claude Sautet's The Things of Life (1969), beginning a long collaboration. He has composed for over two hundred films, including Roman Polanski's The Tenant (1976) and Tess (1979), for which he received an Academy Award nomination. He won César Awards for Barocco (1976) and The Judge and the Assassin (1976), and received the Joseph Plateau Music Award in 1993.
