Biography
Gérard Brach (23 July 1927 – 9 September 2006) was a French screenwriter and occasional film director. He is best known for his long collaborations with Roman Polanski, for whom he co-wrote the screenplays of Repulsion (1965), Cul-de-Sac (1966), The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967), The Tenant (1976), Tess (1979), Frantic (1988) and Bitter Moon (1992).
Brach also worked extensively with Jean-Jacques Annaud on films including Quest for Fire (1981), The Name of the Rose (1986), The Bear (1988) and The Lover (1992). In the early 1970s he directed two features, La Maison (1970) and Le Bateau sur l'herbe (1971), neither of which achieved commercial success. He received a BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jean de Florette (1986).
