Biography
Raphael Saadiq is an American composer, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. Born Charles Ray Wiggins on 14 May 1966 in Oakland, California, he first rose to prominence as vocalist and bassist in the R&B band Tony! Toni! Toné!, which he formed in 1986 with his brother D'Wayne Wiggins and cousin Timothy Christian Riley.
Saadiq has composed original music for several television series, including Insecure (2016) and Lovecraft Country (2020), often collaborating with Laura Karpman. He is also credited on projects such as Underground (2016), L.A.'s Finest (2019) and Black Nativity (2013). He has worked under the production name The Ummah and released solo albums alongside his band and group work with Lucy Pearl.
