Biography

Laura Karpman is an American composer of music for film, television, video games, theatre and concert halls. She was born on 1 March 1959 in Los Angeles and trained at the Juilliard School.

Her film scores include The Marvels (2023) and American Fiction (2023), for which she received an Academy Award nomination. She has composed for the Marvel series What If...? (2021) and Ms. Marvel (2022), as well as Lovecraft Country (2020) and the upcoming series Down Cemetery Road (2025). Karpman has won five Emmy Awards and a Grammy Award for her album Ask Your Mama.

She co-founded the Alliance for Women Film Composers and is married to composer Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum.
