Biography
Jeffrey Wright is an American actor. Born on 7 December 1965 in Washington, D.C., he studied political science at Amherst College before training briefly at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. He began his career in theatre, gaining prominence with his Tony Award-winning performance as Belize in the 1993 Broadway production of Angels in America.
Wright's film roles include Jean-Michel Basquiat in Basquiat (1996), Felix Leiter in the James Bond films Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008) and No Time to Die (2021), Beetee Latier in the Hunger Games series, and Lieutenant James Gordon in The Batman (2022). He received an Academy Award nomination for his leading role in American Fiction (2023). On television he has appeared as Valentin Narcisse in Boardwalk Empire and Bernard Lowe in Westworld.
He has collaborated with Wes Anderson on Asteroid City (2023) and The Phoenician Scheme (2025), in which he played General Gibson and Marty respectively. Other credits include The Laundromat (2019) and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025), as Bishop Langstrom.
