Biography
Reed Morano is an American film director and cinematographer. Born on 15 April 1977 in Omaha, Nebraska, she graduated with a BA from New York University and began her career as a cinematographer.
She made her directorial debut with the feature Meadowland (2015). Morano directed the first three episodes of the Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale (2017), for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and a Directors Guild of America Award, becoming the first woman to win both in the same year. Her other directing credits include episodes of Halt and Catch Fire (2016) and Billions (2017), and the features I Think We're Alone Now (2018) and The Rhythm Section (2020).
As a cinematographer, Morano has worked on films including Frozen River (2008), Kill Your Darlings (2013) and The Skeleton Twins (2014). She directed an episode of the Apple TV+ series Cape Fear (2026).
